We invite you to join in the fun! Visit alpacas (and us), spin a yarn, shop, relax and enjoy a bit of life at Sierra Rose Alpacas! Our farm boutique will be open. There will be discounts on all of our product lines. Expect discounts of 10% to 35% on all items (including the alpacas).
Tours of the ranch will be conducted throughout the day. You will have the opportunity to meet the alpacas and to feed them, and even pet them if they are willing.
We encourage beginner and advanced fiber artists to attend. If you spin, knit, crochet, or do felting, you are invited to bring your craft and share it with others. Enjoy spending time at the ranch, watching the alpacas, enjoy sharing your art with others.
At 1pm there will be a walk-and-talk presentation that we call ALPACAS 101. Here we will go into more details on alpaca ownership and husbandry. This will be of particular interest to those who are considering starting their own alpaca herd.
At 2pm there will be a demonstration of basic fiber processing techniques. You will learn to skirt fiber. We will demonstrate the use of a wool picker, you will be able to use a drum carder, and if you wish, to try your hand at a using spinning wheel.
Our farm boutique is stocked with gorgeous hand-made alpaca items, cozy socks, assorted colors of yarns from our alpacas, rovings for spinners, gloves, hats, scarves, & gorgeous naturally fire retardant alpaca rugs, and so much more!
In response to numerous requests to help at the ranch, we are accepting applications for helpers in the following areas: (1) Work with fleece (after it has been removed from the animal). This includes cleaning, sorting, skirting, picking and carding. (2) Working with the animals. We will teach you to halter them, lead them, feed them, and to perform health evaluations. (3) Ranch-related work. This can include fence building and repair, irrigation systems, pasture preparation and maintenance, small construction projects, and other work as scheduled.
